Next Communications: Twitter and relationship damage

  • Dave · 12 months ago
Single and looking? I'm single and tweeting.

That said, I talked my ex-girlfriend into getting on Twitter while we were dating, and she still uses it. Then and now, it's a nice way for us to keep in touch with how each other is doing without getting too clingy or interfering with our work.

When I'm completely infatuated with someone, I love the idea of having a window into their life, through Twitter or Facebook, without potentially annoying them by trying to engage in an active conversation when they might not have the time to just shoot the breeze. Involving Twitter in relationship communications makes me wonder:

Is there such a thing as love at first tweet?

I don't know if there is such a thing as "love at first tweet," but if there is, I hope you find it.

Your closing paragraph is an important message.

My spouse does not blog or tweet or brightkite. I do.

He plays Xbox Live obsessively, I do not play at all.

We are kind of in separate social network worlds.

Maybe the hobby analogy works best for you and your spouse. Thanks.

Interesting question. I'm lucky that my wife also Twitters so she understands the madness. :)

That is pretty cool of her to participate with you. My wife started and still has a profile on Twitter, she's just not nearly as into it as I am. And yes, it can be madness sometimes.

Sean ( @seanbonner ) proposed to Tara ( @tara ) using Twitter. She accepted using Twitter. The wedding was covered live using Twitter. Sean travels quite a bit for his job and keeps in touch with Tara using Twitter.

I am interested also in who else has found the love of their life on Twitter? Its a great tool but as you say Vedo, relationships are more important. Its important to work out where Twitter or any social network is in context to existing relationships. Boundaries are important on all issues in relationships and there needs to be a mutual agreement that both parties can work with. I am interested in the tools on online dating sites & social networks that help match couples. What helps on Twitter?
