Excellent thoughts on this, although I fear some will still make up things based on their dogma, and the leadership they get from a couple of talk-show hosts, who have convinced them that nothing Obama says has merit.

I mourn the end of loyal opposition in this country, the concept that democracy is built upon. Let's congratulate and criticize people for what they say AFTER they say it, and let's maintain respect for the office and the officeholder, even if we don't agree with what he or she says.

Samra - I agree. We discovered early on in our phone calls with people from
the community that we were not going to change their beliefs. And that's ok,
they are free to believe anything they want. I think one of the guys on
local sports radio said it best when discussing the angry calls and e-mails
they received on the matter, "It would be funny if it weren't so sad."

You are right on my friend. It was an interesting couple of days to say the least. Emotions will still be high for another day or two. It has been interesting watching the interviews with parents on TV from all over the US.

So glad to see your post this morning (was just now getting through my Reader posts). I was planning to ask you about this today, too! I had a friend in Seattle email me to ask what was going on with this uproar because they weren't having the same issues there that we are here. And good point - at least it's starting a discussion about education.
