Next Communications: Good communication tactics stand up to fire test

Well Richie I think that Chesapeake may be an example of PR being used to exploit the power of big business against everyday citizens. It is true that Chesapeak has used the best minds and the best tactics to get their message out. But many in the community are not convinced that this natural gas exploration is really in the interest of Fort Worth. At best, Chesapeake stands to make a fortune while the citizens profit very little, and are possibly subject to unknown risks and dangers due to this being a fairly new process. In short, we are the "guinea pigs."

Having the process explained to us is better than nothing. But I do think that if pro and con sides were thouroughly examined by advocates for the competing sides, and the messages which were paid for were counteracted by someone, say, a free press like the Star-Telegram somehow has ceased to be, this would be in the public interest.

Sonja - thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. Especially being critical from the community. That's how these big issues are supposed to work with discussion and thought. You pointed out exactly my point, which is basically the best minds and the best tactics will in fact get the message out.

The question I have not explored here is whether or not the strategy is good for our community. That is a conversation / debate worth having. At this point, I am not prepared to debate the pros/cons of Chesapeake Energy community relations and engagement campaign. Like I said, this was from a fundamental communications perspective and the need for sound tactics.

Again, I do value your opinion and feedback.
